OKX identity verification steps for DeFi users who withdraw to self-custody
A walkthrough of the OKX verification flow from the Profile menu: which documents the app asks for, how to avoid rejected photos, and why your verified name matters when you move funds to a personal wallet.
Multiple exchanges | the reader's region | the reader's funding currency | fees, access and account safety
Anyone who uses OKX as an on-ramp before moving tokens into DeFi will hit identity verification sooner or later. The process is not complicated, but it punishes haste: a cropped document, glare on a laminated card or a name typed differently from the passport is enough for a rejection and another wait. This guide follows the order the app uses, explains what each screen is checking, and shows where to look when a submission stalls. It does not cover ways to avoid verification, because there are none worth taking.
Start from the Profile menu, not a link in a message
Open the OKX app you installed from your phone's app store, tap the profile icon at the top left and choose Verification. The screen shows which level your account has reached and what the next level requires. If someone sends you a link promising faster approval, ignore it; verification only happens inside the app or on the web after you log in. Before you begin, check that the email on file is one you still control, since the result notices arrive there.
Prepare the document and the room before you shoot
Choose your country of issue and the document type the app offers, such as passport, national ID or driving licence. Lay the document on a dark, plain surface, switch off flash and photograph it so all four corners are visible. Glare across the photo or the machine-readable zone is the most common reason for a retry. For the face scan, stand facing a window rather than with your back to it, remove a cap or glasses, and follow the on-screen prompts to turn your head slowly.
Match the details exactly
Enter your name, date of birth and address as they appear on the document, including middle names and accents where the form allows them. If you later withdraw fiat or receive funds from a bank, the name on that account is compared with the verified one, so a mismatch now creates problems later. When the app asks for proof of address, use a recent utility bill or bank statement that shows your full name and the same address you typed.
What to do when the status stays pending
Review usually finishes within the time the app displays, but it can take longer during busy periods. Check Verification again rather than resubmitting, because duplicate submissions can slow things further. If the status changes to rejected, the app normally states the reason, for example an unreadable image. Fix only that item and resubmit. If no reason is given, open Support from the profile menu, start a chat, and quote the date of your submission instead of sending documents through the chat.

Scenario checkpoint
- Open Verification from the profile icon inside the installed OKX app only
- Photograph the document on a dark surface without flash, with all four corners visible
- Type your name and address exactly as printed and keep a matching proof of address ready
