Checking network compatibility when moving stablecoins from an exchange to a wallet

A self-custody wallet may display an address that works on several networks, while the exchange sends on only one. How to check compatibility before withdrawing stablecoins from Binance, OKX, Bybit or Bitget to a wallet.

Moving stablecoins from an exchange to a self-custody wallet seems simple: copy the wallet address, paste it into the withdrawal form, confirm. But wallets and exchanges think about networks differently. Some wallets use the same address format across several compatible networks, while the exchange withdrawal sends on exactly one. If the wallet is not set up to show that network, the funds may arrive but appear missing, or you may need extra steps to access them. This guide explains how to check compatibility before withdrawing from Binance, OKX, Bybit or Bitget. It does not recommend any wallet.

Know which networks your wallet supports

Before withdrawing, check in your wallet which networks it supports for the stablecoin and which ones are currently enabled. Some wallets require you to add a network or token manually before balances appear. Read the wallet's own documentation rather than guessing. Note the full network name exactly as the wallet shows it.

Match the exchange withdrawal network

On the exchange withdrawal form, select the network that matches the one enabled in your wallet. If the wallet uses the same address across several networks, the exchange may accept the address for more than one option, so selecting the right one is entirely up to you. Read the notices beneath the network and confirm the amount to be received.

Test and confirm visibility

Send a small amount first and check that it appears in the wallet on the expected network. If it does not appear, check the transaction on a block explorer for that network before assuming it is lost; the wallet may simply need the network or token added. Only send the rest once the test is visible in the wallet.

Keep records of each route

Record the wallet, network, address and date of each successful route, and save the exchange address in the withdrawal allowlist with a label that includes the network name. Keep your wallet recovery phrase offline and never enter it on a website or share it with anyone offering help. Genuine support for an exchange or wallet never asks for it.

Scenario checkpoint

  • Check which networks your wallet supports and has enabled for the stablecoin
  • Select the exchange withdrawal network that matches the wallet setting
  • Send a small test and confirm it appears in the wallet on that network
  • Check a block explorer before assuming a missing test transfer is lost
  • Never enter or share your wallet recovery phrase with anyone
