Harden your logins first when you use several exchanges

Guides · 2026-09-30

Using several exchanges multiplies the number of settings to manage, and people often respond by doing a little on each platform. A more effective approach is to start with what all the accounts share: the email addresses behind them, the password manager that stores their credentials and the devices that hold their second factors. If that layer is strong, every account benefits; if it is weak, no amount of platform-specific settings will compensate. This guide sets out a login-first hardening order for people with accounts on Binance, OKX, Bybit or Bitget, followed by the per-platform steps that build on it.

Secure the shared email

Identify every email address registered with an exchange. Give each a unique password and its own second factor using an authenticator app or passkey, and check for forwarding rules you did not create. If one email is used for all exchanges, it is your single most important account. Consider using it only for financial services, so it receives fewer phishing attempts.

Secure the password manager

Your password manager holds the keys to everything. Protect it with a strong master password and its own second factor, and make sure you can recover it if you lose a device. Generate unique passwords for every exchange inside the manager. Never reuse a password between platforms, because one leak would then unlock several accounts.

Consolidate second factors

Move exchange logins from text-message codes to an authenticator app or passkeys. Keep the authenticator on a device you control and write each setup key on paper. Keep a list of which accounts use which factor, without secrets. That list becomes essential when you replace a phone, because you can migrate every account in one sitting.

Then per-platform settings

With the shared layer strong, go through each exchange: set the anti-phishing code, enable the withdrawal whitelist, review devices and sessions and remove unused API keys. Schedule a quarterly review that starts again with the shared layer. Ignore unsolicited messages about your accounts and use only in-app support channels.
